Frenchtown Pond State Park, established in 1972, is a day-use park built around an 18-acre pond west of Missoula. It has a beach and swimming area, and the pond offers four-season fishing for bass, perch, and hatchery trout from a fishing dock. Winter brings ice skating. The grounds include two reservable group shelters, a playground, and more than a mile of pedestrian and bike trail around the pond. An American Legion Flag and Veterans Memorial stands in the park. Visitors can also picnic, boat, and watch wildlife. The park runs educational programs, including Hooked on Fishing clinics and Junior Ranger programs that serve thousands of youth. Hours vary by season: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. October through April, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. May through August, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in September.
