The Big Arm unit of Flathead Lake State Park sits on the lake's west shore, about 15 miles north of Polson. A long pebble beach and a mature forest of ponderosa pine and juniper frame views of the Swan and Mission ranges, and the unit is the jumping-off point for 2,163-acre Wild Horse Island. The campground has 41 campsites, including a wheelchair-accessible site and three yurts, and is open April through October. Day use is available year-round, with water and showers running mid-May through mid-September. Visitors can camp, hike, swim, fish, boat, bird watch, and photograph, and there is an archery range on site. Water sports are a big draw in summer, and the park's position on the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States makes it a convenient base for exploring the Flathead Lake shoreline.
