Brookhaven State Park covers 1,638 acres in the central core of the Long Island Pine Barrens. It was once part of Brookhaven National Laboratory and the former military installation Camp Upton. The park runs along the east side of William Floyd Parkway, north of Whiskey Road. The Brookhaven Trail heads south through the park and joins the Paumanok Path, passing oak-pine habitat, scattered wetlands and coastal plain ponds. Bow hunting is allowed in season, and hunters are asked to obey posted signs.
