Chatfield State Park in Littleton is a large reservoir park southwest of Denver, where mountain views rise beyond the water and open prairie. It is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the Denver metro area. Boating, swimming and fishing are the main water activities, while trails serve hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Campgrounds make it easy to stay overnight, and hot-air balloons are a familiar sight over the park on calm mornings. Wildlife, especially birds, is abundant in the wetlands and along the shore. A daily parks pass costs $10 per vehicle, and camping runs $18 to $36 per night. Weekends in summer are busy, so plan to arrive early.
