Pere Marquette State Park near Grafton is Illinois's largest state park at nearly 8,000 acres, with tall bluffs overlooking the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. The wooded hills and river views make it one of the most scenic parks in the Midwest. A historic 1930s lodge, built with stone and timber, anchors the park and offers comfortable lodging and dining. Trails lead to overlooks and through forest, and bald eagles gather along the river in winter. Horseback riding, camping and picnicking round out the activities. There is no vehicle entry fee, and camping fees vary by site, from $8 to $45 per night. Winter eagle watching is a special highlight.
