Little Moreau Recreation Area, six miles south of Timber Lake, sits in the sheltered watersheds of the Moreau and Little Moreau Rivers. These were traditional winter campgrounds for the Cheyenne and later the Minneconjou and Two Kettle bands of the Teton Sioux. The river names were later changed from Owl to an early trader's name. Grassland attracted the first European settlers to the valley. Today the park offers five first-come, first-served campsites, boating, fishing, hunting in season and wildlife viewing.
