Fort Sisseton Historic State Park preserves an 1864 frontier army outpost on top of the Coteau des Prairies. Named for the nearby Sisseton Tribe, it keeps its original stone barracks, officers' quarters, powder magazine, guard house and other buildings from the western frontier. Visitors can walk the grounds and learn how soldiers lived. The park has hiking trails, fishing and boating, and a campground with 14 campsites and three camping cabins, each sleeping six. A summer historical festival brings living history to the fort.
