Lost Dutchman State Park near Apache Junction sits at the base of the rugged Superstition Mountains, a landscape steeped in legend. The park is named for the Lost Dutchman gold mine, a story of hidden treasure that has drawn seekers to these cliffs for generations. Trails lead from the desert floor into the mountains, including popular routes with sweeping views. The park has 182 campsites and cabins, and spring wildflowers and blooming cacti make it especially beautiful in season. Sunsets light up the rock walls in deep orange and red. Entry is $20 per vehicle Monday through Thursday and $25 Friday through Sunday and holidays. Hike early in warm months, and bring plenty of water.
