Monte Sano State Park sits on a mountaintop overlooking Huntsville and offers a cool, forested escape just minutes from the city. The park's rocky bluffs and hardwood forests make it a beloved place for hiking and relaxing. Trails range from easy strolls to more strenuous climbs, and other highlights include a Japanese garden, a planetarium and rustic cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. A campground provides a comfortable base for overnight visitors. Admission is $5 for adults 12 and older and $2 for children 4 to 11 and seniors 62 and older, with a maximum of $20 per vehicle. Fall is especially beautiful, when the trees on the mountain turn color.
