About this park
DeSoto State Park near Fort Payne sits high on Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama, with sandstone bluffs, deep forests and beautiful streams. It is one of the most scenic mountain parks in the state and a favorite for hikers and waterfall lovers. DeSoto Falls is the park's signature attraction, and many other waterfalls flow after seasonal rains. Miles of trails lead through the woods and along the canyon rim, while a lodge and cabins offer comfortable places to stay. The park is close to Little River Canyon, making it easy to combine visits. Admission is $5 for adults 12 and older, $2 for children 4 to 11 and seniors 62 and older, and free for children under 4. Spring is an excellent time to see the falls at their fullest.
