King Mountain State Recreation Site near Chickaloon is a cliff-top stop above the Matanuska River, along the Glenn Highway. The high vantage point offers sweeping views of the river valley and surrounding mountains. The site is popular with paragliders, who launch from the ridge and drift over the valley, and it is also a good place for travelers to stop and stretch. Interpretive information and quiet trails add to the experience. Parking is $5. It is a scenic break along one of Alaska's most beautiful highways.
